Decluttering Made Easy With Wilson Storage

It’s that time of year again! The weather is warmer and the days are getting longer. That can only mean one thing – it’s time to spring clean and declutter.

For many of us, spring cleaning is a chance to declutter our homes and get rid of all the stuff we don’t need. But it can also be a great opportunity to get organised and make your home more functional.

If you’re not sure how to declutter your house, don’t worry. We’ve put together a spring cleaning checklist to help you get the most out of your spring cleaning this year.

Declutter your home with our simple tips

What do you need to successfully declutter?

  • Start with a plan: This is the first crucial step to decluttering your home. What areas do you want to focus on? What do you hope to accomplish? Having a plan will help you stay focused and on track.
  • Set aside some time: Once you have a plan, set aside some time to get started. Whether you have a few hours on a weekend or a few minutes each day, making time for decluttering will help you get it done.
  • Start small: If the thought of decluttering your entire home is overwhelming, start small. Choose one area or one task to focus on at a time. This will help you stay motivated and make progress.
  • Get rid of the clutter: Once you’ve chosen an area to focus on, it’s time to get down to business. Sort through your things and decide what you want to keep, what you can donate, and what you need to throw away. Grabbing yourself a few boxes to help should be on your spring cleaning list – something like a carry box or book box will be perfect.

Kitchen Declutter Checklist

The kitchen is one of the most high-traffic areas of the house, so it’s no surprise that it can also be one of the most cluttered.

  • Start with the fridge: The fridge is a great place to start because it’s one of the most used appliances in the kitchen. Take everything out of the fridge and wipe down the shelves. Toss out anything past its best before date, then restock.
  • Declutter the pantry: This can be a daunting task, but it’s important to get rid of any expired food or items you no longer use. Once you’ve decluttered, put everything back in an organised way.
  • Clean the work surfaces: First, remove any non-kitchen-related clutter that’s been collecting there. Tidy up all appliances, utensils and anything you ‘haven’t got around to putting away’. Wipe down all the surfaces and finally reposition only those items and appliances you use regularly.

Bedroom Declutter Checklist

In a hectic world the bedroom is a haven for many of us, so it’s important to keep it clutter-free.

  • Start with the bed: Make sure to wash all the bedding, including the sheets, pillowcases, and duvet cover. Then, declutter any items that are on or around the bed. Remember – your bed is not your closet!
  • Declutter the closet: Most of us will either love or hate the idea, but it’s important to get rid of any clothes you no longer wear. Use the old trick – if you haven’t worn it for over a year, it’s time to go. Throw out, donate to charity or sell online.
  • Organise the dresser: Empty all the drawers and throw out anything you’d forgotten was in there. Rearrange each drawer in logical groupings of items, folding neatly to maximise space.

Living Room Declutter Checklist

  • Start with the coffee table: A neat, organised coffee table can set the tone for the whole room. Remove all the items from the table and wipe down the surface. Then, replace everything neatly remembering a table should always be as empty as possible.
  • Declutter the entertainment centre: Tidy up all remotes and put away all drives, devices and anything not currently in use. It’s also a great opportunity to offload any movies or games you no longer use.
  • Organise the bookshelves: Remove anything that shouldn’t be on the bookshelf, thoroughly dust and then sort the books themselves. A popular approach is to group by size or colour, which creates a strong visual.
