How to Choose the Right Storage Unit Sizes

Need a storage unit, but don’t know the storage unit you need? We’re here to help. Navigating storage unit sizes doesn’t come naturally, except for us of course. We’ve been doing this for a while. Selecting the correct storage unit size is crucial for efficiently organising your belongings and managing costs. Here’s a guide to help you choose the right size:

1. Assess Your Storage Needs

Begin by listing all the items you plan to store. Categorise them into boxes, furniture, and specialty items like sports equipment or seasonal decorations. This will give you a clearer picture of the space required.

2. Understand Storage Unit Sizes

All storage units are different. And for good reason: they address specific needs, whether residential storage or business storage. Wilson Storage offers a variety of unit sizes:

Wardrobe (Up to 4.4m2)

Fits plenty of boxes or camping, surfing or skiing gear as well as medium-sized items like a fridge freezer, washer dryer or a single mattress.

1 Bed Home (Up to 5.9m2)

Great for decluttering or between rentals. Fits plenty of boxes and small furniture or complete contents of a small 1 bedroom apartment and people living in the city.

2 Bed Home (Up to 9.9m2)

The size of half a garage. Great for decluttering or renovating. Fits large furniture and all the storage boxes for a 2-bedroom apartment or house.

Drive Up Container

20-foot drive-up containers. These are ideal for families on the go or for businesses who need easy access to equipment and tools.

3 Bedroom Home (Up to 14.9m2)

Equal to three-quarter garage space. It fits all the furniture and boxes from a typical 3-bedroom home, ideal for moving or renovating.

4 Bedroom Home (Up to 19.9m2)

Typical single car garage size. Easily fits the contents and storage boxes from a typical 4-bedroom home plus outdoor furniture.

5 Bedroom Home (Up to 40m2)

Our largest residential space easily fits the contents of a large 5-6 bedroom home plus outdoor furniture and all the boxes you’ll need.

3. Visualise the Space

A picture says 1000 words. Via the Wilson Storage website, you can visualise our storage unit sizes to understand best how to store your items. Wilson Storage provides detailed descriptions and the option to view units before making a decision.

4. Consider Future Needs

If you anticipate needing to store more items in the future, choose a slightly larger unit to avoid the hassle of moving to a bigger space later. Better to be safe.

5. Optimise Packing

Efficiently pack your items to maximise space. Use uniform-sized boxes and disassemble furniture if possible. Stack boxes and utilise shelving units to keep your storage organised and accessible.
