Wine transportation tips and advice
There are a few things to keep in mind when transporting wine. Above all else the goal for wine transportation is to ensure your wine arrives in the condition it left in but this can be trickier than you expect!
For the best way to transport wine there are steps you can take to ensure that your wine arrives safely at its destination.
These are our best tips to ensure that your wine arrives safely and in perfect condition.
1. Climate Controlled not Air Conditioned
Choosing the right wine carrier is step one in ensuring that your wine arrives not only safely at its destination but in the ideal condition. Having a climate controlled vehicle, not just air conditioned, will put your wine in the best position possible.
While both systems can blow both warm and cool air into a vehicle, only climate control can automatically control a vehicle’s interior temperature. This prevents it from becoming damaged and altered during transportation. Air conditioning systems don’t have the ability to consistently monitor and maintain air temperature independently putting the onus on the driver.
2. Pre-chill your wine before transport
Pre-chilling your wine before transport will help to prevent it from becoming too warm during transit. Be sure to chill your wine to the correct temperature for the type of wine you are transporting, to decrease any risk to the contents.

3. Avoid excessive heat and direct sunlight
Avoid excessive heat and direct sunlight when transporting wine. Heat can cause wine to spoil, so even if using the correct vehicle be sure to keep your wine carrier in a cool, dark place during transport.

4. Secure your wine carrier during transport
It’s vital that you secure your wine carrier during transport to prevent the wine from moving around and becoming damaged. You can secure your wine carrier by using straps or placing it in a box.
To make sure the wine is properly packaged use a sturdy box and packing material to cushion the bottles. Wilson offers a range of packing solutions for this very need.
Keeping the wine secure is vital – if the bottles are jostled or shaken it can cause the wine to become oxidised and lose flavour.
